This is a Nursery School for the Community and was not established for children in care at Kids Haven. However, where appropriate, young children resident at Kids Haven may attend the school. The school is registered with the Gauteng Department of Education and can accommodate 36 children.
Members of the public donate all equipment and teaching aids. This includes the outdoor equipment and bikes. Volunteer Staff manage the daily programme at the Nursery School although the overall Management is closely controlled by Kids Haven Staff. Young adults within the Youth Skills Programme may work at the Nursery School in order to learn appropriate childcare skills and the importance of early childhood development.
The children receive a hot meal at lunchtime and a snack at midmorning. Parents
are encouraged to attend the year-
Fees are charged at a rate of R 80 per month. However, parents pay what they can afford.
Kids Haven provides support to local crèches. Crèches visit the Kids Haven Nursery School and Toy Library on a regular basis for help. The teachers may visit the Toy Library weekly.
This programme also benefits families who have not been involved with Kids Haven. We do what we can to help with resources such as clothing and sometimes food parcels. The need for help far exceeds our capabilities.
Kids Haven has one Charity shop and one Book shop for the resale of used goods. The shops are located on the ground floor of the KH Administration building. KH only sells excess goods and does not sell anything that could be used within our own organisation.
The stock in the shops is priced very low in order to benefit the community.
Income generated through the shops is used within the Organisation.
