A place where souls are mended

It was 2012 when Terri brought a young girl in our care, she was not yet a teenager, very pretty but the pain was written through all over her face.
I remember she used to cry so heavily when she talk about how her step father sexually abused her in the mother’s presence, and that was the most difficult thing she had to mention.
The child adjusted in KH but it was tough.  Her behavior was so troubled, very hard to control as she would manipulate, deliberately hide away so that she could be left at school, came with excuses, lying.
She became suicidal, felt worthless, no self-esteem, hated to go to school, as she felt like the world knows her pain.
What a great team work and support we had to rebuild this young life, I remember disciplinary and talks she had with Moira, Social worker and childcare, the countless visits we did with a SW at school to double check her extra murals and she was not coping. Abuse required her to have surgery which Moira ensured she have even though it meant filling in so many forms and running around for the treatment.
She recovered and the perpetrator was sentenced.

She was referred for second term therapy with our Therapy Centre, when I asked if she could be included for a 2nd time, the supportive Terri never hesitate, she said, let’s get it done ASAP with the same therapist as they were already have a relationship.
She attended,
The most amazing part is how she bounced back, she has been doing sports at school, does very well academically, communicates her whereabouts so well, respects she will be where she is supposed to be,
She comes back at the given time, she does interact at school, attend KH programs like modelling, KH got talent and did well.
Recently she was invited to another Organization specializing in trauma and abuse.
She was asked to be the one of the speaker but she said no, I will attend but not ready to talk, she listened to other girls sharing their stories.
Five years later she knows what she wants, is very focused and dedicated to her school work, became to highest in her school marks, has a clear picture of what she wants to be.

When I look at her I fully agree with what is in the logo “’where souls are mended”’.

Sometimes we focus so much on saving the world, forgetting that one soul we saved is such a huge difference.

Thank you
Portia
